What Is Body Image?

Body image concerns affect people of all genders, ages, body sizes, and backgrounds. You don't need to have an eating disorder to benefit from body image therapy.
My Approach to Body Image Work
I use a weight-inclusive, Health at Every Size (HAES) informed approach that focuses on challenging diet culture and appearance ideals, developing body neutrality and self-compassion, reducing body checking and avoidance behaviors, building a more balanced relationship with exercise and movement, processing past experiences that shaped your body image, and cultivating a sense of identity beyond appearance. I also incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help you cope effectively with bad body image days — so that a difficult moment doesn't derail your entire day or your life. Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), we'll work on building a life that is aligned with your values beyond appearance, so that how you look no longer dictates how you live. Your body will inevitably change and flow throughout different life stages — and that's okay. In therapy, you will learn how to accept and be kind to your body through every season of life, rather than fighting against its natural evolution.
